Toowoomba Anglican School extends its sincere gratitude to Mr John Herbert as he prepares to retire as a Trustee of the Past Prep Headmasters’ Memorial Fund Trust after 17 years of dedicated service.
John’s connection with TAS spans three generations. He first joined the School as a boarder in 1951, later returned as a parent to Adam and Michelle, and more recently shared in the TAS journey of his grandson, Finnegan.
From 2009 to 2023, John served on the Past Students’ Association Committee now known as the Toowoomba Anglican School Association (TASA), including many years as Treasurer. His careful stewardship, wise counsel and commitment to strong governance helped modernise the Association’s constitution, financial systems and reporting practices.
John also played a leading role in several important projects. These included the Association’s significant support for the School’s science laboratories, the introduction of automatic life membership for departing students, restoration of the Boss Connal portrait, and the development of the School Archives. His leadership helped secure and preserve precious pieces of TAS history, and establish the Archive Room.
As a Trustee of the Past Prep Headmasters’ Memorial Fund Trust from 2009 to 2026, John provided outstanding administrative, financial and strategic leadership. His work strengthened the Fund and helped ensure it could continue serving its purpose for future generations. It should be noted that this fund supports a number of families each year through a bursary. These families would not be able to attend the school without this support.
John’s contribution has been characterised by integrity, diligence and a deep affection for the School. He has worked quietly and consistently to strengthen relationships between TAS, its Alumni Association, our Foundation and the wider School community.
On behalf of the entire TAS community, we thank John for his extraordinary service and enduring commitment. His contribution forms an important part of our School’s story and leaves a legacy that will be valued for many years to come.
